Women Build 2026
May 4-7

When women come together to build, amazing things happen. Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build creates a welcoming space where women of all backgrounds and skill levels can roll up their sleeves and make a real difference in our community.

You don’t need any construction experience—just a willingness to learn and help. Whether you’re swinging a hammer for the first time or already know your way around a toolbox, you’ll gain hands-on skills you can take home and use in your own life. Plus, you’ll be part of something bigger: building safe, affordable homes for families in our community.

“Build sites become havens of encouragement, community and growth— places where individual talents are combined and multiplied.” -A Habitat Women Build volunteer

Women Building Futures in Northern Michigan

In the last two years, 37 households in northern Michigan have achieved the strength and stability that comes with homeownership or critical home repairs through Northwest Michigan Habitat for Humanity. 22 of those were women-led households—demonstrating that when women have access to affordable housing, entire families thrive.

Across all 37 households, 32 women and 24 children now have safe, decent places to call home. Women Build continues this vital work, bringing our community together to build strength, stability, and hope.

Yes, men are allowed and welcome! While Women Build is focused on the inclusion of women in the work of building homes, the initiative does not exclude volunteers of any gender.

How does Habitat empower women?

Our goal is to empower women to help families build strength, stability, and independence. At Habitat we have the ability to provide opportunities for hands-on learning, and when offered these tools, women can succeed in changing their communities.
