ReStore to Close Effective June 27, 2026

The local business community has struggled for years to find and keep employees, especially in retail and hospitality. Combined with online shopping and peer-to-peer sales platforms like Facebook Marketplace, these pressures continue impacting the retail sector.

As a retail outlet, Habitat ReStore has faced the exact same challenges. Given the continued forecast of declining revenue and increasing costs, we have made the difficult decision to pivot away from ReStore operations.

While we love our ReStores, our mission is to build homes. Our innovative approach has proven to be highly successful. We can build entire communities and create affordable housing options that allow people to live where they work. As we prepare to build more communities, we need to focus every dollar and every hour on our goal. As is true for so many affiliates nationwide, ReStore no longer contributes to the mission in the way that was originally intended. For that reason, we are moving out of retail operations to focus solely on home building and repairs.

Details

The Cheboygan store will consolidate into our Petoskey location in May, with final store closure on June 27, 2026. Please check our Facebook page if you plan to visit, since hours may fluctuate during the shut-down process.

Given the closure schedule, we are no longer able to accept donations in Cheboygan and the last day to donate items in Petoskey is May 30. We encourage you to donate your gently used furniture and home goods to alternate resale organizations. Last dates to use store credit is May 30 for Cheboygan and June 27 in Petoskey.

Thank You!

We sincerely thank all those who have donated to, volunteered and shopped at ReStore over the last 20 years. Please know that your support is more important than ever! We would love to have you volunteer, and we deeply appreciate your financial gifts. Stay tuned for news about upcoming new communities and ways we will help people in our three-county service area achieve the dream of homeownership.
